Keeping Cool in the Classroom: De-escalation Strategies

DESCRIPTION:
This session will provide staff with valuable tools to prevent and respond to challenging behavior in the classroom setting. When de-escalation is effective staff is able to maintain the safety of everyone involved and decrease the future likelihood of behavioral crises.

OBJECTIVES:
1. Arrange the environment to best support students during escalation, including management of potentially dangerous objects.
2. Identify the key components of effective teamwork
3. Implement three evidence-based de-escalation strategies
4. Learn recovery and debrief procedures that are likely to be effective.
